Adding 1.5 to 2 percent carbon makes steel, which is a more grounded yet less pliant metal. Tempered steel will be steel with differing measures of chromium added to keep rust from shaping. Cast iron is steel with a carbon content higher than 2%. It isn't pliant however can be dissolved and projected in molds.
